Vatican City

Still hurting from yesterday's hike around town, I wisely decided to take a hop on/hop off bus around this morning. But then, I wandered too far from a ho/ho stop for lunch and found myself too far from the stop to get back in time for it to get me back to the Vatican in time for my afternoon tour. So I ended up walking another almost two miles to get to the tour meeting point. After a 3+ hour tour! I'm hurting as much or more than yesterday. But it's worth it. I'm currently enjoying eh at is quite possibly the greatest free wifi hot spot on the planet....

I've also found a new favorite pasta dish - spaghetti (or whatever) all'Amatriciana. Yum!  Saw lots of art, including the Sistine Chapel (which was, of course, stunning), but so desperately wanted to get off my feet that it was hard to pay as much attention to detail as I wanted to by the time the tour ended in St. Peter's Cathedral. How are there no pews in that place?  I was more than willing to pray if that's what it took to get ten minutes sitting or even kneeling. My feet would have appreciated it. Still, it was amazing and there was a Mass going on while I was there so I even got music.  I was kinda surprised by how completely the crowd seemed to disregard the rules of the Sistine Chapel (silence, no photo/video) even though the cards kept yelling things like, silence, silencio, shhhhhh!  Disappointing. I was looking forward to being in a room full of people being silent and respectful. Oh well, more evidence that I was born in the wrong era.

Hmmm, what else happened today?  The bus tour was nice. And while waiting (far too long) for the mandatory bus switch at Termini, I bought the Bluetooth thingy that goes with the selfie-helper I bought yesterday. I'm proud to say that, although I still probably paid too much, I haggled on the price of both items. To anyone who knows how I buy cars ("I'm willing to spend this much, which car can I have?  No, I don't want to discuss it, which cars?), this has to be impressive.  Anyway, the quality of my selfies has gone way up. See...
