Caught in a German speed trap! I felt a bit bad at first but then I realized it was just a revenue gathering measure. They set up right after the speed limit changed from 80 to 50 at the bottom of a big hill. Not a single car got by while I was there and that was a fair bit of time because I was out of euros and had to pay with a credit card. While being processed, I even said to the nice polizei, "Wow, you get everyone here, huh?" He said yes with a BIG smile. Oh well, I hear that the US is counting on Germany to save the European economy so I'm happy to do my bit to help out.
Ok, next real stop, the Girmischer Hof - my hotel for the night. I wandered the, again, cute town and joined some hearty Germans for an outdoor cup of coffee (with Baileys) while enjoying the beginning of the holiday lights. They're not all up yet, but the decorating is in progress. In addition to cobblestone streets and cute buildings, Garmisch offers MOUNTAINS. Mountains that can actually be seen! Snow-capped and everything. So happy! Tomorrow I hope to ascend Germany's highest mountain on a cog-wheel railroad. Yay!!
