More driving than fun today, but lots of pretty views out the car windows. I stopped in Donegal this morning. Checked out a castle and ruined abbey. There just wasn't as much to Donegal as I expected, which is good because my journey had just begun when I got there. Next stop was Derry, N. Ireland, for lunch and British money acquisition. Derry was bleh. So was the border crossing. Lamest border crossing I've ever seen. Just a very small "Welcome to Northern Ireland" sign on the post with some other road signs. Boring! Final stop was Portrush where I'm staying for the next three nights. Of course, the place I'm staying for three days is the crappiest hotel yet. It's fine, just a couple stars lower than the last two. The room is barebones and my view is of an alley. But we're across the street from the water, down the street from fun stuff (I played slots and rode the Scrambler!) and a quick drive to lots of sights. No toiletries are provided. I wish I'd known that - there were plenty to be lifted from my last two hotels. I thought maybe they just forgot, so I went downstairs to ask. The sweet, teenaged daughter of the owner said, "Shampoo? I don't think so. Let me check." Then she came out with the family's big bottle. Ugh. I did a quick wash and returned it. Looks like I'm going to the store tomorrow! In addition to (probably) Giant's Causeway!
