Day 5 - Antrim Coast

Awesome day!  So much hilly hiking that I'll probably have trouble sleeping due to knee pain tonight, but it was worth it. This coast truly is beautiful. But I must say, perhaps I was misled by the use of the term "giant," but I motored past all the tourists on Giant's Causeway because I wanted to spend my time with the big rock pillars. Turns out there are no big rock pillars. Why did I think I had seen pics of towering polygons of rock?  Well, it's still cool and pretty but it was a failure in terms of expectation management. I also saw Dunluce Castle (what's left of it) and crossed the rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede, in addition to enjoying several roadside scenic stops on the Causeway Coastal Route. Even though it's still cloudy, it was tough to choose pics to post. First day I've been really happy with my photo options. I've seen beautiful scenes every day, but one of the downsides of traveling Ireland alone is that some of the most beautiful places are too dangerous at which to stop or even attempt drive-by photography. I also saw a lady walking her cat at Giant's Causeway!

I miss Bud. :)

I'm also super happy with my new camera, especially the panorama option. Very cool!  In other news, I'm dining at the Ramada Inn's restaurant this evening. Normally, I avoid US chains, but I wanted a place with a view of the water, wifi, and that was actually open. Beggars can't be choosers in the off-season. It's not beach weather yet. Indeed, it is quite chilly when the wind is blowing (pretty much always on the coast) which I find infinitely preferable to the weather forecast I just saw for DC (about 90 - getting off the plane next week is going to be brutal in more ways than one).

Tomorrow's plan is still up in the air. I'm definitely leaving my hotel a day early (I think I'm the only person staying there and they still put me in the crappy room I paid for - hello, free upgrade??) and ending up south of Donegal again, but I'm not sure what I'll do along the way. Maybe Belfast. It's not on the way, but not terribly far off course.
